Federal's practice facilities give you everything you need to warm up, work on your game, and step onto one of Australia's Top-100 courses with real confidence.
Federal Golf Club's practice range now uses reduced-flight golf balls, designed to travel up to 20% shorter than standard range balls. This means a safer, more controlled environment for everyone, with less risk of injury, property damage or stray balls leaving the range.
Please note: the driving range has a maximum distance of 180m. Drivers and long irons are not permitted for players who exceed this distance.
Large Bucket: $16
Small bucket: $10
There's a reason Federal's members are such a competitive bunch: the practice facilities are genuinely excellent, and they use them.
Whether you're arriving 20 minutes before your round to loosen up, grinding out swing changes with a PGA coach on a quiet Tuesday morning, or working on your short game. Â
Everything you need is right here, set against the bushland backdrop of Red Hill with the Brindabella Ranges in the distance.

The practice range is the natural home of Federal's Golf Academy. Our qualified PGA coaches work with members and visitors on the range every week. Turning time spent hitting balls into real, measurable improvement.
Individual Lessons: One-on-one time with a PGA professional, focused entirely on your game. Whether it's a full swing overhaul, a specific shot shape you're chasing, or a pre-competition tune-up, your coach will diagnose, prescribe, and work through it with you on the range.
Group Clinics: Practice alongside other golfers in a structured, coached environment. Group clinics are great for building fundamentals, learning course management concepts, and improving faster in a supportive setting.
On-Range Fitting: Considering new clubs? Our PGA coaches and pro shop team can work with you on the range to make sure any equipment changes actually match your swing.Â
Tip: Combining regular range sessions with a lesson series is the fastest way to lower your handicap. Most golfers who improve significantly do both.
The range is the perfect low-pressure space to develop your swing before stepping onto the course. Our PGA coaches offer beginner lesson packages that start right here.
You're competing regularly, and you know your game well enough to know exactly what needs work. Use the range to isolate those areas, work with a coach on specific shots, and arrive at every Tuesday or Saturday comp knowing your game is sharp.
Pennant players and competitive members know the range is where tournaments are won before they're played. Federal's facilities provide the space and surface quality to do that preparation properly.
In Canberra for work or a weekend? The range and short game facilities are available to visitors. Warm up before your round, work on a few things, and step onto one of Australia's Top-100 courses as prepared as you can be.
If you're serious about your golf, making the range a regular part of your week is one of the simplest ways to improve. Federal's Classic Membership includes unlimited range balls as a standard benefit.
Come in on a weekday morning. Hit a bucket before your Saturday comp. Spend an hour with your coach working on something specific. However you use it, the range is there whenever you are.
