Mark Lazenby is our Head Golf Professional at Federal Golf Club and has been since October 2018. Upon completing his traineeship at Royal Fremantle in WA he set sail for Europe. Mark lived and worked in the Netherlands for 4 years before embarking for Singapore where he remained for 11 years. During this time he worked at Singapore Island Country Club and then Sentosa Golf Club (ranked top 50 in the world). In 2016 Mark returned to Australia and was appointed as Director of Golf at Heritage Golf & Country Club in Melbourne. The opportunity to move to the ACT with a young family and work at such a great facility as Federal were the key incentives to move here. Mark and his family are loving the Canberra way of life.

Mark is passionate about giving the membership a quality of service that a club of this stature deserves using his experiences and skills that have been developed at some of the best golf clubs in the world.

Phil is currently the Pro Shop Manager and a 3rd year Associate PGA Member. He discovered golf when he was 22 and promptly joined Gold Creek Country Club as a member, and shortly after, his career in golf also started. After 8 years of falling in love with playing the game, Phil had the opportunity to continue his career at Federal. In 2020, Phil embarked on his journey to becoming a PGA member and furthering his skills in the industry by starting his Membership Pathway Program.

Phil is really enjoying the Program, especially the coaching aspect. He can’t wait to complete his last year in the program while advancing and broadening his teaching skills and hopes to call Federal Golf Club home for many years to come.

The Federal Golf Club is committed to the development and growth of junior golf.

We offer an extensive My Golf Program for Junior Members and Non-Members from 5 to 17 years of age.

We have coaching clinics that run for 10 consecutive weeks over each school term as well as Junior Holiday Programs.

The program is designed to help juniors start playing golf, continue to learn, refine and master their own golf game and nurture them into well-rounded athletes.

The program will focus on preparation, technique and shot selection — from the basics to competitive strategies.

As a sign of our committment to grow the game of golf, we are currently offering a FREE Junior Membership to Federal Golf Club to juniors who attend two terms of the My Golf Program we offer.

School Term Clinics

School Term Clinics run for 1 hour per week and follow the ACT Public School terms. Limits of up to 10 students for each class apply.

We offer junior holiday programs every term break, programmed to run 3 hours each day over three days. Afternoon tea is provided daily, with each session capped to 10 students in compliance to current COVID restriction.

Contact our Proshop for our next Junior Holiday Clinic dates.

Supporting Women in Golf

Federal’s Supporting Women in Golf (SWinG) program is the perfect opportunity for women of all skill levels to get together and give golf a go.

SWinG meets on Monday mornings with clinics held on at least 2 Mondays per month at 8:30am and 9:30am with the opportunity to play a few holes afterwards.

On the alternate Mondays we meet to play 9 holes, or as many as you feel comfortable, depending on experience and skill level.

We have volunteers to accompany less experienced golfers and to help outline the rules and etiquette.

These sessions are designed for fun, to help obtain a handicap and to meet other golfers.

For those interested in joining SWinG, please contact Michelle Leggo.
